Old Greenwood is the 10th Audubon International Gold Certified Sanctuary in the worldOld Greenwood Golf Course and Community is proud to be the first Gold Audubon Signature Sanctuary in the state of California. This designation is the highest level of certification offered by Audubon International and requires Audubon involvement from the planning and design phase through homeowner move-in. Old Greenwood was officially Audubon International Gold certified in 2005.

Old Greenwood is the 10th Certified Gold Signature Sanctuary in the world and ninth Certified Gold Signature in the US. It is the fourth Certified Gold Signature Sanctuary project in the world with both golf and residential.

Other Significant Environmental Initiatives & Awards

In addition to the prestigious Audubon Gold Certification, Old Greenwood is proud to be the recipient of other awards and accolades for environmental awareness:

LEED Certification

In 2006, the Natural Resource Management Center (golf maintenance facility) at Old Greenwood was awarded Bronze Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by the by U.S. Green Building Council. It is the first and only maintenance facility of its kind to receive this certification.

Environmental Leaders in Golf

Environmental Leaders in Golf Awards (ELGA), is a national program that is sponsored by Golf Digest and the Environmental Institute for Golf. Old Greenwood’s Agronomy team won recognition in 2005, 2007, and 2008.

  • In 2005, Joel Blaker, Director of Agronomy, won First Runner Up in the Chapter Award category among semi-private/resort golf courses.
  • In 2007, Jonathan Moulton, Assistant Superintendent, won First Place National award among semi-private/resort golf courses.
  • In 2008, Old Greenwood’s Agronomy Team took Top Honors for the National Resort Category. View article here.
